A large, pink and yellow canvas with a horse outlined in white. A hand holding a brush is putting pink paint inside the white outline.

I'm Maija.  I have been obsessed with horses since I saw my first horse at age three.  But I also like cats and dogs.  Okay most animals.

My face in a black hat, in front of the neck of a semi-muddy horse. I am smiling.

I'm also a PhD student at the National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies / TOAR in Atoearoa, New Zealand.  Because, well, people are killing each other and that's a drag.

When I'm not researching where people believe violence comes from, I am chasing auroras, buying paint, going around looking for horses, watching sea lions, getting upwind of the sea lions (because whew! they eat only fish and never bathe and boy can they fart), and practicing enjoying life.

A sea lion surfing. His parents were sleeping on the beach, and this youngster was playing in the waves.

Sincere thanks to my mother for dragging me to every art show in New York City, as well as her own art classes, for my entire childhood, and for praising every mark I made.  And to PAFA for a good classical education.  And to all of my parents for supporting whatever I have wanted to do.
