Although this started out as a different-looking group of horses, my subconscious painted a very similar family grouping as in Earth Horses.  This time, the white horse is protectively sheltering the foal as the little one moves on their long, wobbly legs. 
I was able to get extremely free with the layering and brushstrokes in this piece, while keeping the careful horse anatomy that seems to be a signature of my work.  It remains one of my favorite pieces.
